When you choose nail clippers for your salon there are a few things that you have to keep in mind. The first is that as good pair of clippers will last you for quite a long time. However, they will need to be cared for properly and kept as sharp as possible. Like all nail tools, you need to understand how to use cuticle nippers properly; otherwise you could end up causing damage to your client.

How to Use the Clippers

Cuticle clippers are not difficult to use. You simply hold them over the skin that needs to be clipped, close the blade, release it and you are finished. However, many nail technicians begin by making the mistake of pulling the skin once they have gripped it. You should never have to pull the skin with the clippers; it should cut straight through it once you have closed the blade on it.

If you find that the clippers are pulling the skin
then the problem is likely to be that they are not sharp enough. If you look hard enough then it is possible to find a supplier who offers a sharpening service for the clippers. This will ensure that they are kept in great condition at all times. If you use blunt clippers then it will cause problems so the added cost of sending them away to be sharpened is definitely worthwhile.

It is worth noting that the clippers should not be used to remove the lifted skin of the nail fold. Really they should only ever be used to remove the cuticle after it has been lifted away from the nail plate by the cuticle knife. It is also possible to use the clippers to cut away hangnails.

Taking Care of Your Clippers

As with the cuticle knife, cuticle clippers need to be taken care of. If they become blunt and they cannot be sharpened then you should replace them. Using blunt clippers will result in the skin being torn away and that will not produce good results.

If you have not been using the clippers on broken skin then they should be wiped with an antibacterial and then soaked in a disinfectant. However, if they have been used near broken or chapped skin then they will need to be sterilised.

It is important that you follow these cleaning instructions as health and safety regulations require you to keep all equipment as clean as possible. Not doing so could lead to an infection and you could end up having your salon closed down.

Overall cuticle clippers can really help to make removing the cuticle as easy as possible. It is worth noting however that incorrect usage could lead to various problems including torn skin.
