WHY A BODY WRAP?

Body wraps are therapeutic treatments that may:

Detoxify the body

Remove excess fat and fluid from tissues,

Restore balance and strength of skin

Reduce joint pain,

Tighten and tone the skin, and

Nourish, hydrate and soften the skin.

Body wrap bandages are wrapped tightly for an effective and specific wrap. Linens, porous elastic bandages, plastic or similar material is used to wrap individual body parts. Care must be taken to not wrap too tightly and constrict circulation.

The body can be wrapped as a whole, with a blanket of plastic or foil sheet/ polyester film or vinyl suit with an electric blanket, this is called cocoon wrap or body mask. Linen, sheets or towels may be used.

CHOOSING YOUR INGREDIENTS

A wrap does not need to have many ingredients to be effective - the ingredients that you chose should fit the purpose. A wrap can be very simple with clay, and some salt or it can be more complex with the addition of herbs, essential oils and nutritive ingredients. For one wrap, you will want to make up about 4-5 cups worth of dry ingredients.

For example: (2 cups clay, 1 cup salt, 1 cup herbs, 1 cup seaweed, 2 tablespoons nutritive wetting agent)

PREPARATION

The skin is first prepared by exfoliating or dry brushing with a salt/mineral scrub, also called a body polish.

Body polish removes the build up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin which affects the skin permeability and hinders the absorption of topical products, in this case the body wrap.

Dead Sea salt, Citrus Polish and Fruit Acids (AHA) are popular body scrubs used for body wrap preparation.

BOTANICAL AND HERBAL

Body wraps that use Algae, Kelp, Seaweed, Irish moss powder and Bladderwrack are detoxifying treatments that help rid the body of toxins through metabolic stimulation. Seaweed contains a high vitamin and mineral content, micro and macro cell-regenerating nutrients, amino-acids and very high levels of anti-oxidants.

These emollients soothe and nourish the skin. AHA can be helpful for exfoliation of the top layers of the epidermis. An occlusive dressing similar to plastic wrap or layering may be used for deeper penetration and better results. AHA’s are effective for lightening skin pigmentation and smoothing roughened skin.

Alpha-Hydroxy stimulates cell regeneration and effectively draws hydrating ingredients found in the body wrap into the skin.

AHA s is potent and should not be left on the skin for more than 30minutes to prevent irritation to the skin.

INFRARED HEAT

Infrared Body Wrap is targeted infrared heat therapy.

It is effective as a source of healing that improves the circular, cardiovascular and immune systems. It is more effective than other traditional heat treatments since the infrared heat penetrates twice as deep getting at toxins and cellulite trapped in pockets beneath the skin.

Each infrared body wrap session usually takes an hour and does not require a lot of labor. The infrared wrap system comes with infrared pads that are wrapped around the customer’s thighs, hips, abdomen, and arms.

Benefit of using the infrared body wraps are that it improves the appearance of cellulite, relieves minor pain relief, contours and shapes the body, and possible inch and weight loss.
