Nanotechnology in the beauty industry involves making products with nanoparticles that can penetrate deeper below the skin’s surface to give better results!
Nanotechnology is a dynamic area of science dealing with the study of materials that have very small dimensions.
Nanotechnology has enabled cosmetic producers to formulate ingredients with particles that are 100,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair. Nanotechnology makes it possible to control the molecules and therefore active ingredients are small enough to penetrate the skin. It is said that nanotechnology helps heal and repair the skin tissue. . |
Beyond Skin Science, a California-based skin care provider, has launched a complete range of anti-aging skin care products formulated with its nano-derived NanoChem technology. The company says that combined with effective emulsions, the product is better able to bond and penetrate the skin to make it appear stronger and healthier.
“We understood that by using our NanoChem process, we could substantially improve the performance of the ingredients and the results. Thanks to nanotechnology, the future of skin care is happening now." Paul Ferron, president and founder of Beyond Skin Science.
Advanced Nanottechnology CEO Dr Paul McCormick says that nanotechnology can help to improve the transparency and chemical properties of products by producing very small nano particles that are just 30 billionths of a meter in length. He says these minute particles do not lump together but disperse uniformly in a flat layer, enabling light to pass though them. This technology has led to the development of a sunscreen called ZinClear – which uses nanoparticles of zinc oxide which are manufactured as a completely clear liquid instead of the familiar thick white paste. Other Australian companies to use nanotechnology in sunscreens are the Crown Laboratories Inc. In their two sunscreens – Blue Lizard Baby and Blue Lizard Sensitive – and the Cancer Council Australia in Sunscreen Plus Clear Zinc.
Some other products, for example specific moisturisers with certain actives, may use nanosomes (little pocket-like nanoparticles which disintegrate or melt upon application to skin) to expedite the moisturising effect.
Nanotechnology will revolutionise skin care! Nanotechnology is raising the development of skin care products and cosmetics to another level, making them high-tech so as to deliver increased benefits. Nanotechnology is making it possible for other ingredients to be used in the manufacturing of beauty products. |
