Trend watching can put your business in the money for the long haul. By watching trends, you gain inspiration, helping you dream up profitable new goods, services and experiences for your salon and clients.
Once upon a time, yoga was a purely spiritual practice, whereas now it is seen as another form of exercise. The original spiritual practice was developed into a form of exercise and from this again has developed into numerous other business opportunities of selling yoga variations, yoga accessories, books, DVDs, courses. Many new avenues have been spawned from the original yoga. Creative entrepreneurs has developed an array of yoga type services such as nude yoga, Bikram Yoga (sauna-effect for detoxification), Hatha Yoga (meditative yoga), Pre-natal Yoga, and the list goes on. Current events form future trends.
Gerald Celente, founder and director of The Trends Research Institute in Rhinebeck, New York says “If you keep up with what’s going on socially, environmentally [and] with business and consumers, you can see that all things are connected.”
Look at your environment with fresh eyes and constantly make observations and new discoveries. You have to always be on the lookout. Read newspapers and magazines. Go online and read blogs. Watch TV-not just the news, but popular shows. Talk to teenagers; they’re especially in tune with trends. Look to companies like Wal-Mart to see where their profits are coming from. Join beauty and spa associations. Go to Seminars, fairs, trade shows, network with health practitioners and beauty therapists. Follow the beauty industry leaders on Twitter and Facebook. Basically, do anything you can to stay on top of what’s hot and what’s not- and what will be in the future. Concepts are distilled from perceptions of life experience. The more points of reference you have the greater your ability to develop concepts.
What is the art of Beauty Therapy? The development of beauty treatments and skin care concepts. Beauty interpretations evolve into new concepts. Concepts connect themselves with others concepts to form new therapies and procedures.
