Top tips and strategies for the Salon and Spa owner to keep more money in their pocket, attract more clients, get the word out, keep client interested and returning for value-added products and services. Take charge of your life, Invest your time and money wisely.

SAVE AND AVOID DEBT

Staying out of debt is usually a matter of spending less.
You may save money, by finding a cheaper product line, which offers the same results  as your previous products. So now you think you deserve that extra cup of coffee a day, which is really unnecessary. It is hard to get ahead with our vanity and desire, that keeps us spending money. So how do you spend less money? Whenever you want to spend money, ask yourself – “Do I really need this, or do I just want it?”  How much stuff do you have gathering dust or stored away, stuff you had to have, but no longer need. Beware of impulse buys. Another great question to ask is: Do I want this or would I rather spend my money on something else. Have a wish-list, of things you truly want. Your wish-list helps you focus on what’s really important to you and you are less likely to spend money on other trivial items. Now when the phone rings with Beware of falling into the trap of the more you make, the more you spend. Sure you can spend more if you are making more, but it would be wise to save more too. The moral of the story: Make to most of the money you make. To get more money, you need to spend less than your income.

SPECIALISE

Secondly don’t scatter your powers. Too many salon owners are falling into the trap of offering new and exciting services to their clients in the hope of making more money. Today they buy a sunless spray tanning unit, tomorrow it’s a potent anti-wrinkle formulation and next week they are looking at doing a course in some hot new wildly acclaimed body work modality, You will miss out on earnings by offering too much. When you knuckle down and focus on your niche, you accomplish twice as much. Your results are superior and you are far more credible when you have a specific profession rather than we do everything. Specialists make more money than generalists.

BE SYSTEMATIC

Have systems, and procedures in place to ensure your business runs smoothly and everyone is giving clients the same treatment. Systems ensure that the standards are clear and the outcome consistently excellent. Have check-lists to make it easy for Estheticians to know what’s expected. Step-by-step procedures make it easy for everyone and it keeps clients happy. Be systematic in the running of your entire business – not just systems and procedure, but also budgets, goals and plans. That way you know what you’re doing and where you are going.

BE INFORMED

What are the latest beauty and skin care innovations? Are you reading the trade journals and visiting the trade shows?  As a skin care specialists you need to have a greater awareness of current activity in the health and beauty field. Your extensive experience will help your clients and your advice and ideas will build client loyalty. With knowledge you help your clients avoid mistakes and steer them to where they will achieve the best outcome.

ADVERTISE

Are you getting the word out? You depend on your community for their support. Submit articles to your local paper. Something newsworthy and useful. Think of the article as a seed. You need to sow to reap.  Keep advertising. A person may not notice your ad the first time. They see the headline the second time. The third time they read the ad. The fourth and fifth time they think about calling you. The sixth time your advert appears they call. Be consistent and never rely on one means of advertising. Use multiple advertising mediums to inform and persuade potential clients to visit your salon.

CLIENT SUCCESS

Give them tender loving care and treat each one like a very important person. Who are your most loyal clients? It is advisable to know who your top clients are. (The 20% who bring in the most business) These VIP clients need extra special attention as they bring in a large portion of your profit. If my VIP client was considering a brow tint, I would give her a free introductory. She is already there for a facial, so it’s not going to take any extra time. She will appreciate the gesture and she may decide to include it in her next facial treatment. Don’t keep A VIP client waiting. They deserve to be taken care of. When you over-deliver, clients will love you even more.

Client Success In a nutshell:

1.  Your beauty business is built on your relationships with your clients.  Be generous and pay attention to them.

2. Client success also depends on Spending time keeping  in touch with your clients.

3. Meet new people (potential clients) whether socializing, networking and asking for referrals.

Whatever you do, have passion, be remarkable, and do it with all your might!

INVEST IN YOURSELF

How much do you invest in yourself, in your personal development and in spa technology? Do you invest time into sending out emails to your clients and potential clients? Do you do surveys or simply ask questions to your staff and clients? The amount of time and money you invest in yourself and your business will directly relate to your know-how and ultimately to your success. You don’t need to spend a fortune on courses and mentors. Of course that would be useful, but if that is not possible, it can be as simple as going to the library and reading about advertising your business online, or reading about marketing or researching a particular subject of interest online. There is heaps of information available, but knowledge is the ultimate. Gaining information is valuable; however never stop investing in your knowledge, skills, interests and talents.  Investing in your personal development can include going to the gym, eating well and getting rid of clutter. (You will think better and be more productive).

What’s your dream? Are you investing in it? Are you good at selling yourself? Can you overcome buyers resistance? Do you need to get clear about what you sell and how to sell it?
