If you are not improving…you are getting worse. Learn to be proactive. Think things through. Consider what really matters to your salon's success. Think of new ideas, better, more effective approaches to beauty therapy, your clients and employees. Imagine what your clients want and then become that person, become that salon. Imagine what your employees would want and support and motivate them to reach new levels of achievement. Concentrate your efforts to becoming a lucrative salon, a business you can love and be proud of. Clear the clutter from your mind, so that you can plan and work toward your goals. If you are not continually improving you give the competition a chance to catch up. Recognize that even large companies, no matter how successful they have been, there is no guarantee they will continue to succeed, and this applies to all of us.   There is no room for complacency among business leaders.  Successful service leaders are never completely satisfied with their progress. They will relentlessly strive for continuous improvement. Plan now for future improvement and success. In the planning process focus on what your clients really want. Technology, the marketplace, and even people themselves have become more complicated than they were.

Adequate training, experience and common sense must be combined with new techniques in order to succeed in this age. 

Don’t be afraid to ask people for advice and their opinions. Of course you do not need to take their advice, however you may gain valuable insight, or their perspective may trigger new ideas and thoughts which you can use. I am not necessarily talking about speaking to other beauty industry experts; I’m talking about your friend/neighbour/uncle/aunty/local shop owner/business man etc. Sharing your ideas, opens you up to new theories or hypotheses, which may be instrumental in you’re a-ha moment.

What really makes a Successful Beauty and Skin care Business?  Is it enough to have great products and technique? I don’t think so. Talent is not enough on its own. It needs to be combined with other qualities like dedication, a marketing drive, and creativity. Have a curiosity for the beauty industry and a passion to learn. An aspiring and motivated esthetician always looking for answers is going to seek and find solutions. You may not fit the picture and people may not think you have the personality for running a beauty business. But with expertise, motivation and curiosity, you will do just fine. A gentle touch goes a long way in face and body treatments. I tend to avoid estheticians who are too heavy handed or work in a rushed manner. Pay attention to the qualities that make a difference. With persistence, confidence and consistency, you can refine and define your skills into a masterpiece.

You may not feel ready to plan. You may only have a vague idea, but it is best to write it down. Once you start writing, you often discover that you know more, than you thought you knew. Keep researching and just start with what you have. If it’s incomplete, that’s okay. It takes time for things to take shape and develop. With time, you will fill the gaps, to make your business more complete. Ask someone you trust for their input. Keep it simple and keep it focused. Start small – try to do one specific thing.
