Shirodhara (Ayurveda)

 

Shirodhara/Sirodhara originates in India and is a form of Ayurveda medicine (holistic healing science) that involves gently pouring oil over the forehead (usually oil, but an alternate liquid may be used). The ancient therapy of Ayurveda aims to harmonise the body, mind, senses and soul.

 

This treatment has become popular in day spas for its soothing and relaxing properties. It invokes peace and relaxation.

 

Shirodara is an easy and luxurious way to instant calm and rejuvenation.

 

The flow of aromatic oils over the forehead and scalp and hair create a

blissful sensation. Warm oil is poured over a client’s forehead, followed by head and shoulder massage.  A copper vessel is used to allow a trickle of oil to gently flow in a continuous rhythmic stream.

 

The treatment (gentle flow over the forehead) is said to synchronise alpha brain waves, enhancing blood circulation, improving mental clarity, releasing toxins, stress and tension.

 

Exfoliation, moist towels and herbs may be incorporated into the Shirodhara spa treatment. The procedure will leave you with a long lasting sense of peace.
